Jon Favreau’s first trailer for the live action Lion King Reboot might be the big topic among Disney fans right now, but Star Wars fans are dying to learn more about his upcoming series for Disney + called The Mandalorian. Right now, we only know a few tidbits about the show. It will star Pedro Pascal. It is set in the year’s between Return of The Jedi and The Force Awakens, and it is going to be directed by an all-star team that includes Favreau, Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Dave Filoni. We also know that George Lucas is being given writing credits on the episodes of the show, alongside Favreau. Last night, during a q/a that took place after a screening of Avengers: Infinity War, director Joe Russo gave us some new information that teases the innovation happening behind the scenes on the new show.
“It’s amazing. We went down there to say hi to Jon. Taika was directing an episode, so we went to hang out with them. Jon is always at the forefront of cutting-edge tech, and he is shooting this in a way that no one has ever shot anything ever before. It’s pretty astounding.”
What does this mean? We aren’t sure, but it probably means a lot of mocap mixed in with some of the practical effects sensibility that JJ Abrams helped bring back to the franchise in episode VII.
