While the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as millions of fans, wait to see if Disney is going to beg James Gunn to return to the job he was recently fired from (they probably are not), one particular Guardian is making his displeasure known louder than any other.
In a new interview with Shortlist, Dave Bautista (Drax) has come out with what could be fighting words to the house of mouse. The actor has already been the most vocal about his issues with Disney’s firing of Gunn and now he wants to make sure that they at least don’t throw out all the work that the director had done on the upcoming threequel.
“Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
He went on to talk about his initial reaction to the firing:
“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man. I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: fuck this. This is bullshit. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met.”
The funny thing about the statements is that you can bet the first person to call Bautista and tell him to back down was probably Gunn himself. It’s hard to imagine that the director, who has handled this situation as humbly and professionally as possible, would not want his friend and a talent that he pretty much helped discover, to throw away the opportunity in support of him.
