Media Action Network for Asian Americans (MANAA) has uploaded images of protesters who demonstrated outside the Arclight Cinerama Dome during the premiere of M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie “The last Airbender.”

The MANAA is the first organization dedicated to monitoring all facets of the media – television, motion pictures, print, advertising, radio, etc. – and advocating balanced, sensitive and positive portrayals of Asian Americans.

According to demonstrators, they protesting the film because they believe the film discriminates based on race. Citing that the production of the “Airbender” film adaptation discriminated by selecting white lead actors to play characters widely acknowledged by the creators to be Asian or Inuit in the original animated series.

Meanwhile, M. Night Shyamalan has gone on record defending the casting by saying that the movie is the most ethnically diverse movie ever.
