It was reported last month that 20th Century Fox approached director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) and offered him the opportunity to direct Marvel’s quirky anti-superhero film “Deadpool” starring Ryan Reynolds. Rodriquez admits that Fox did send him an early draft to read and mull over, but at the time he still hadn’t decided if he wanted to take on the project or not.
Today, LA Times reports that Rodriguez and Fox are in negotiations and that “the sides need to agree on a number of key points, but it’s moved beyond the casual discussion stage and into the more substantive realm of deal points.” As a result, no official deal has been made yet, but it’s getting close!
If both sides can come to an agreement, Rodriquez would make an ideal director for “Deadpool.” He would off a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) which I have good faith in being nothing short but awesome. Rodriquez definitely has what it takes and I’m exciting to learn that Fox is giving him this opportunity and I hope the two can come to terms.
Rodriguez is currently at work on “Spy Kids 4” and has recently completed filming “Machete,” which comes out September 3rd (also awesomeeeeeeee!!!).
