THR is reporting that 90s classic TV series, Saved By The Bell is coming back for a new revival series at NBC. Mark-Paul Gosselaar is set to not only star in the series, but also executive produce. Meanwhile other original series alum Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater) and Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) are also set to return for the new show. Still up in the air is whether or not Tiffani-Amber Thiessen will return to play Kelly Kapowski. The show will feature at least one new cast member in Josie Totah as a beautiful, popular, mean cheerleader at Bayside.
There are no details on the story behind the new revival, but if we had to guess, at least one (if not all) of the three returning characters will be back at Bayside High where they are now teachers, or possibly part of the school administration. We are guessing that the new mean girl character will probably one of their daughters. Her story arc will probably involve her finding out the flaws of her own evil ways to eventually mature into the kind of character that can lead the student body. If Tiffani-Amber Thiessen has any involvement in the series, it will probably be as the ex-wife of Gosselaar‘s Zach. That would give them a way to not have her in the series, but possibly also bring her in and once-again explore the Zack/Kelly love story.
One thing is for sure. we don’t expect to see Screech or Lisa Turtle back for the new show. Lark Vorhees, the actress who played Turtle has been living with Lupus since diagnosed in 2007 and has not been active as an actor since around 2012. Meanwhile, Dustin Diamond, the actor who played Screech burned a lot of bridges with former castmates when he published a tell-all autobiography about the series in 2009. He also released a porn film and spent a short amount of time in prison for brandishing a knife and disorderly conduct.
