Today was a big day for Marvel in Hall H, and while Disney and Fox battled it out for the top billing I think it’s safe to say as fans we’re the real winners.
The first footage for Fox and Bryan Singer’s much anticipated “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” was shown and attending the panel was an all-star mutant cast that included writer/co-producer Simon Kinberg, producer Lauren Shuler Donner, producer Hutch Parker, and actors Omar Sy, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicolas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, and Evan Peters.
From the rough footage that was shown, which was also in 3D, we got to see a lot of mutants and time traveling madness. Xavier, Magneto, Storm, Kitty, Bishop and Wolverine are in the future and they are discussing plans on sending Wolverine’s mind back in time to convince a young Xavier and Magneto to make peace. Everyone is worn out and beaten in this dystopian future.
The footage introduces all the various First Class characters with quick cuts of action. We see Magneto pulling a distressed Mystique along the floor. Magneto descending from the air. A lot of explosions. A quick scene of Beast attacking someone. It ends with a young Xavier telling his older self, “I don’t want your suffering. I don’t want your future.” Old Xavier faces his young self and says, “Please. We need you to hope again.”
“X-Men: Days of Future Past” opens May 16, 2014. I can’t honestly can’t wait!
