With Supernatural wrapping up, it’s time for the cast to find some new jobs. Today, it’s been announced that Jared Padalecki has been cast as the lead in a hard reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. We are saying Hard Reboot, because it’s not going to end up with Jared being the son of Chuck Norris, the original Walker. This will be an all new adventure, only using the brand and general idea as a starting point, because it’s easier to slap a story on a name people know than it is to launch a new brand on its own.
The new show is being created by CBS studios, home to reboots for MacGuyver, Hawaii Five-0, and Magnum P.I., but it isn’t currently slated to join that network. In fact, som reports say that it could find its way to the CW where Padalecki already has a loyal following from Supernatural.
Here’s the description of the new show –
At the center of the series is Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a man finding his way back to his family while investigating crime in the state’s most elite unit. Our broken widower and father of two returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years for a high profile case – only to discover that there’s even more work to be done at home. In a nod to the original series, Walker and his new partner — one of the only women in Texas Rangers’ history — are the modern day heroes our world needs, following their own moral code to fight for what’s right, regardless of the rules.
