Dateline Peru – Its time again for the annual cat eating festival… and no, that is not a euphemism. They call it the ‘Massacre of the Moggies’, and it is a two day long festival where the townsfolk of Canete, dine on the kitty carnage to celebrate its health benefits.
They believe that eating cat burgers, fried cat legs and tails, and whatever other parts they can find – can cure bronchial disease.
ironically enough, they also believe that the cat meat is a great aphrodisiac.
Not to worry though, these aren’t pets being brought to the slaughter, they are specially bred cats who are raised for the sole purpose of the festival.
In the “Omg, I can’t believe it!” department, PETA has come out against this cultural event as cruel and senseless slaughter. Peta has also come out recently advocating the commercialization of human breast milk instead of cow’s milk.
