Mr Robot is the first series from the USA Network that doesn’t feel like it could have come from the USA Network. I like a lot of their shows, but MR Robot was weird, dark, and carried a weight that none of their other series have been able to pull off as of yet. That’s what makes me so excited that we now know season 2 will kick off on July 13, 2016. The announcement came today, along with these new teasers.

The show’s creator, Sam Esmail, says that the main topics they’ll be tackling in season 2 are “encryption and privacy.”

Here’s a recent comment he made about how the show’s themes are echoed in the current news stories of Apple refusing to hack their own tech for the government:

What’s weird is we’re really going into thematically talking a lot about encryption and privacy, and this whole thing with Apple and Tim Cook happened, which I actually think is a really important issue that we’re really going to get into in the next 10 years or so. It’s not something that I think people really understand the nuances of, but it’s going to be interesting public discourse about it, because it really brings up the idea of the rights to privacy and do we have them, do we not?
