Transformers Human Alliance Bumblebee figure
If you could buy only one Transformers toy this year and you’re not sure which to buy, let me make it very simple for you. You buy either the Leader Class Optimus Prime or this. The Transformer Human Alliance Bumblebee toy is a part of Hasbro’s new Human Alliance series that pairs one Transformer with a human ally action figure. But what really makes this line pop is the fact that you are getting two brand new toys and not just repackaged or repainted existing movie toys. Of all the movie Bumblebee toys ever made, this is also the best Bumblebee figure in both car and robot mode. In car mode, both the driver and passenger doors open and Sam Witwicky, Bumblebee’s Human Alliance friend, fits snuggly in the driver side of the car. For a car that also transforms, its interior is fairly decorative as it even comes with a steering wheel! Sam stands in a little over 2” tall and features an astounding 14 points of articulation made up of ball-joints and swivel-hinges. Its Shia LaBeouf likeness isn’t the greatest, but for a 2” figure you can’t honestly complain. The transformation for Bumblebee is a little bit tricky, but there instructions to help you out (and believe me, I had to use them). Like Sam, Bumblebee also comes with an impressive amount of articulation and when fully transformed he stands in at around 7” tall. What makes this the best Bumblebee figure, however, is that he comes with his battle mask which can be flipped down — a feature that previous Bumblebee figures never had! In robot mode, Sam can also accompany Bumblebee as there are three ways for him to be carried giving new meaning to the phrase “Riding shotgun!” Ultimately, the Human Alliance Bumblebee is a fantastic toy/collectible, and I would definitely consider it to be one of the best toys of 2009.

Transformers Voyager Class Series – Megatron
The Transformers Voyager Class series is a more affordable alternative to the higher end Leader Class series, but it’s almost hard to tell in terms of quality and value with the Transformers Movie 2 Voyager Megatron. Like the Human Alliance Bumblebee figure, Voyager Megatron is one of the best movie Megatrons’ I’ve seen. While I’ve never liked the Megatron’s alternative mode from the movie, its voyager vehicle mode has him transforming into a Cybertronian tank. It’s not as impressive as a semi truck or a jet, but it is rather menacing and honestly, I can’t even remember what he transformed into in ROTF, so a tank he is! As a tank, Megatron features a launchable missile and an articulated barrel thanks to some nifty engineering. His robot mode is probably the most impressive in terms of detailing and he features an excellent head sculpt. He is fairly articulated overall although none of the poses you can get him in are really all that impressive. The transformation for Megatron is pretty complicated, while it’s no Rubik’s Cube, it comes pretty close. The Voyager series has a lot to offer in terms of playability and overall value, with Voyager Megatron leading the way as probably the best of the bunch!

Singing Gizmo Gremlins Plush
We always wanted a Mogwai in the office. No, not that crappy band, but Gizmo from the movie “Gremlins.” Sadly, we could not resist the urge to feed it after midnight and bathe it just to cause some sort of apocalyse. Thankfully, that is not a problem with the Singing Gizmo Plush. This cute little guy is more than just a stuffed animal. He’s just about the closest thing you can get to owning an actual Mogwai. Just turn him on and he does more than just sit there, he sings his little mogwai song and sways like a stoner at a Dave Mathews Concert. Not only is this little guy fun to have around, but you can use him to scare the crap out of people. He’s got a sound detector, so just set him on someone’s desk and wait for them to pick up a phone or start talking and Gizmo will come to life!
